1. Introduction
The demand for secure reliable communication is on a constant increase in the Defense Industry.It’s a fact that, during an environmental and technology crisis, global networks become unpredictable due to the destruction and gridlocks. In those situations, satellite communications are more consistent than the global networks.

1. Portable Thuraya Monitoring System
The portable system monitors both uplink (transmission from the handset of the subscriber) and downlink (transmission to the handset of the subscriber) on the L-Band (Thuraya uses L Band frequencies for communicating between Handset and Satellite). Data transmitted on the downlink comes from the satellite through the transmission power of the high signal strength, therefore can be intercepted easily. Whereas, in case of uplink, the transmitted power is less as it is being transmitted from the handset which has a very small transmitter. In this case, if the target is quite far away, the system fails to intercept the uplink. Hence, we will only be able to listen to simplex call as the target exceeded the range of the monitoring system. Features and Specifications:
System is compact and has an easy to carry unit which can be used to monitor the L-Band communication taking place between the Thuraya Mobile Hand Set and Thuraya satellite.
The system is designed to monitor both uplink and downlink communications from the mobile handset.
The system automatically detects and monitors Voice, SMS and Fax communication.
The system automatically decrypts the Voice, SMS and Fax communication almost in real time (once the call is completed).
System intercepts both uplink and downlink information of the Thuraya terminal at L-band.
Coverage area can be changed by the operator according to the priority of intelligence mission.
The location of the target can be mapped on Digital map.
The system is capable of intercepting and displaying the Spot beam ID, Date and time of call, TMSI, IMSI, IMEI ,Latitude and Longitude of target (GPS location),Telephone number of called party and calling party, Direction of the call flow (Incoming Call or Outgoing call, Call type (Voice or SMS) and Duration of call (With start time and end time).
2. Static Thuraya Monitoring System
The static system monitors downlinks from the L- Band and uplinks from the C-Band. Since all Thuraya communications are routed through the primary gateway in Sharjah (UAE), so, principally we are monitoring one side of the communication from the location of the target and the other side of the communication from Sharjah. Both Uplink and Downlink sides of the calls are then paired by the system to produce a full duplex (both sided) call.

Being a modular architecture, the capacity of the system in terms of a number of calls can be increased by adding extra hardware.
The recorded sessions can be searched based on various identity parameters.
The intercepted SMS can be viewed using special SMS viewer software integrated with the system.

The Thuraya Monitoring System has a unique field for adding call synopsis.
The GIS mapping software integrated with the system is based on industry’s standards and has the capability of displaying finer details. The software has the option for Zoom in and Zoom Out. With a closer zoom, the user can view contour, terrain, roads, tracks, towns, villages etc.
The system has the possibility of multiple users accessing the system for call playback.
